OLD BAHAMA BAY INTRODUCES A TRIO OF WORLD-CLASS FISHING TOURNAMENTS
October 25, 2006 - West End, Grand Bahama, Bahamas – The Bahamas is known for its crystal clear waters, spectacular white sand beaches, and world-class fishing. One of the best examples can be found just 56 miles from the Florida coast; West End on Grand Bahama island. A mere 2-hour boat trip or 20 minute airplane ride will get you to this island paradise and Old Bahama Bay Resort and Yacht Harbour.
The Bahamas Wahoo Challenge has taken the Bahamas by storm. Some of the largest wahoo ever taken on rod and reel have been landed in the Bahamas. The second tournament in the series, “The West End Leg,” will be hosted at Old Bahama Bay January 18th through 21st, 2007. Boasting over $100,000.00 in cash prizes, the tournament is attracting teams from across the U.S. and Caribbean. Participants who register before December 25th will receive 10% off of hotel rates and dockage rates and $300 dollars off of the tournament entry fee of $1,800. Boats arriving early will receive an even larger discount on dockage to encourage early arrival. Visit http://www.wahoochallenge.com for entry form and more details.
The battle of the sexes will rage on for ever… maybe not after the inaugural “Bahama Mama – Ladies Only Fishing Tournament.” This will give lady anglers a chance to show off what they can do while on the deep blue sea. Although their male counterparts are allowed to participate in the event, only the ladies can compete and weigh fish for prizes. Make your reservations early as we are certain that the massage appointments will also in short supply. The fun takes place over Mother’s Day weekend from May 10th through 14th, 2007.
Since the Atlantic Longline Ban of 2001, swordfish populations have had an extraordinary rebound. Incredible catches are being reported all along the Gulf Stream, particularly the waters off of West End. The Bahamas Swordfish Championship will pit some of the best big-game fishing teams against one another as they compete for the title and the Championship Trophy; and let’s not forget the $20,000 in cash prize money. The anglers hit the high seas July 26th though 29th, 2007.
Combining Bahamian resort charm and island luxury, Old Bahama Bay features 49 suites (increasing to 73 in December 06), a 72 slip port of entry marina, and a waterfront residential community. Old Bahama Bay is world renowned for their service and amenities including massage services, fitness center, a heated swimming pool contains an infinity edge lounging area with massage jets, three on-property restaurants and bars, and best of all, record-breaking deep sea fishing just minutes from the marina. It’s no wonder the resort has attracted three incredible events.
Whether it’s big game fishing, inshore fishing, diving, or just relaxing, West End and Old Bahama Bay offer a variety of amenities to suit your needs. With the addition of the three world-class fishing tournaments, West End is the destination of choice for sportsmen and worldwide anglers.
