OLD BAHAMA BAY HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL WAHOO CLASSIC AT WEST END, GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND

- "Weekly Sails" from Miami , Florida Wins 1st Annual Tournament -

West End, Grand Bahama Island - Grand Bahama Island 's premier resort, marina and residential community hosted its first annual Wahoo Classic Tournament from January 5 -7, 2006 in the sparkling Atlantic ocean surrounding the island's tranquil West End to benefit the A Child Is Missing foundation.

Thirty anglers in seven boats competed to be the first name on the annual Old Bahama Bay Wahoo Classic trophy during the three day tournament. The competition was a success as the tropical waters off of West End are home to some of the best game fish in the world.

The First Place team from Miami , " Weekly Sails " lead by boat owner, Ernie Valdes, caught a total of 273.5 lbs. of Wahoo during the three-day tournament. The Second Place team also from Florida , " Brittany " lead by boat owner Jean Yves Clerc caught 146 lbs. of Wahoo and Third Place went to the Grand Bahama Island team of " L L Angus " owned by Sydney Riggs who caught 57.5 lbs. of Wahoo.

Prizes were also awarded for the largest Wahoo caught during the tournament. The " Brittany " team caught the largest fish on the first day of the tournament which weighed in at 63.5 lbs. The first day Daily winner was won by " Brittany " that caught a total of 93 lbs. of Wahoo and the third day Daily was won by " Weekly Sails " that caught 199.5 lbs. of Wahoo. Ron Schatman, a world-class and award winning angler from South Florida , served as the weigh master for the tournament.

The event also included a silent auction on Friday, January 6 th to benefit the A Child is Missing foundation as well as festive nightly events including a beach barbeque, a Bahamian-themed dinner and an Award Ceremony dinner and dance on Saturday, January 7 th which was attended by the Bahamas Minister of Tourism, Obie Wilchcombe.

"We are very pleased by the success of our first annual Wahoo Classic Tournament," said Bob Kramm, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour. "We are very happy to contribute to The Child Is Missing foundation and we look forward to watching the tournament grow in years to come."

The tournament was sponsored by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Freeport Oil Company (FOCAL). The A Child Is Missing alert program assists law enforcement agencies in the search and early recovery of missing children, the elderly (often with Alzheimer's) and the disabled in the first hours of their disappearance by use of telephone alert calls.  ACIM can place 1,000 calls in 60 seconds to residents and businesses in the area of where the missing child was last seen. Available nationwide, sexual predator alert program available to law enforcement.

Old Bahama Bay plans to hold next year's annual tournament in January, dates to be announced soon.
