Condé Nast Traveler - 2002 Hot List
“ Old Bahama Bay is so serene that hummingbird serenades and the waves lapping at the shore are the only sounds you’ll hear. The 24 rooms – set in four pastel-hued Bahamian-style buildings facing the Atlantic – are large, airy, and handsomely furnished, each with a veranda overlooking the beach. But what most appeals is the winning service. The staff are gracious beyond belief (a tip for an errand was flatly, but politely, refused) and as eager to guide you to one of the many fine snorkeling spots as they are to rig one of the free catamarans or point you in the direction of a secluded spot on the five-mile stretch of beach. Bicycles and kayaks are also on the house, and there’s a large free-form pool that fronts the surf, as well as a sunny gym that would do justice to a resort three times this size.”

“ After the sirens and stress of New York, Old Bahama Bay was like one of those mirages you see in cartoons. The view from our room was so perfect we actually burst out laughing. There was even a hammock on the beach, strung between two palm trees, with a dog in it. After surveying the bit room (boutique amenities in full effect. Frette robes, luxe bath gels). I made a beeline for that hammock – sorry, Fido.”

"Our oceanfront suite was the most beautiful we have ever stayed in – and we have stayed in perhaps some of the most exclusive resorts in both the Caribbean and Europe."

We wanted express our happiness for a wonderful stay we had at Old Bahama Bay the weekend of October 13th 2006.  This was a special trip to celebrate my Mother’s 75th Birthday.  We could not have picked a lovelier place.  It was extremely nice not to be trapped in the hotel zone in Freeport.  As a family, we greatly valued the peace and quiet we found in abundance on this property.  We did not feel “out in the boondocks,” and it was an easy trip to the city for shopping and other sight-seeing adventures on West End.  Our oceanfront suite was the most beautiful we have ever stayed in – and we have stayed in perhaps some of the most exclusive resorts in both the Caribbean and Europe.  I feel that says a lot about your property.

Where you excel is with your staff!  From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and special.  That being said, we would like to single-out two people in particular.  We were served by Eunice both in Bonefish Folley’s and at the beach bar.  She was a delight and a wonder – she and my mother hit it off right away!  It was like watching two old friends together.  Eunice would take the time to retrieve the golf cart and drive my Mother back to our suite after dinner many times and her attentive service and warm manner were in a class by themselves.  We also had the good fortune to be served by Godfrey.  He was friendly and personable – quick with a joke and genuinely solicitous.  He made dinning at Bonefish for breakfast and dinner a very enjoyable experience.  We really did have a wonderful time and look forward to returning in the future!

Wow!  What a Great Surprise!
We haven’t been to West End in about eight years…Old Bahama Bay is great!  Starting with Poter & Stephenio at the Marina, to Harold and Stephen at Aqua, to a great meal from the Chef (Lobster-Avocado appetizer), to Rod Stewart  on the beach.
Everything could not have been better.  I can’t forget Mary in the Gift Shop and Marcia at the Front Desk.  Couldn’t have been better – we’ll be back for sure!!

The purpose of my writing is to compliment Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour.  We have stayed at many of the resorts listed in the directories in your rooms – properties all around the world.  Never before in our fifteen years of traveling have we ever experienced such delightful staff as yours has proven to be – most bend over backwards to accommodate.  An added plus to this for me – as a teacher – is how well spoken and genuinely interesting the staff was.  Your property is exquisite – and your staff makes it ever so much more desirable.  Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

"Best Hotel On Grand Bahama Island !!!" - 5 Stars

There is not much to say. Definitely the best Hotel on Grand Bahama Island. Forget about the Westin Lucaya (stayed 7 nights before we switched to Old Bahama Bay). It's total tranquility, nice and quiet.

- very nice rooms
- very nice beach
- very nice area of hotel and also harbour
- W-LAN for Free (take Laptop with you)
- small kitchen/microwave in room
- prices in hotel store a lot cheaper than in stores in Lucaya Marketplace or Westin Ground
- non motorized watersports is more quiet and everything includes in room rate (sailing, canoe, bicycles etc.)

This spot is definitely the best on Grand Bahama Island

"Pampering Care in a Surrounding of Unspoiled Beauty" - 5 Stars

The rooms and grounds were exactly as pictured on the web site, or even more beautiful. The beach was extremely private and clean with fine white sand and lovely turquoise water. Every morning shortly after sunrise, the staff would rake up and dispose of the seaweed that accumulated along the tide line. This is exactly the kind of care that went into most of the service during our stay. The food was better in the Aqua restaurant than at the grill, and I didn't find the straw bar on the beach to be very welcoming. All of the food service was a bit slow, probably due to the very laid back lifestyle of the locals.

The staff tried to never intrude and would quietly go about their chores, looking away if we walked past them, but if any need at all was expressed by a guest, it was always quickly met. This is the perfect place for solitude, since it's 25 miles to get to the city and any night life. One evening we arranged for transportation to a local West End spot called "Ian's" and had a wonderful meal of grilled snapper, grits with tomato seasoning, conch salad and other local dishes all of which were delicious.Cab rides are readily available to Lucaya for the evening if you want to hang out with a bunch of tourists.

If you want to meet the locals, stay on West End and go to its funky little bars which we found to be quite friendly. The weather in January can be "iffy". We had a cold front come through which eliminated beach activities for all but two days of our stay, however, I hope to return again one day during the warmer months and try the extensive snorkel areas.

"A Beautiful Inn on a Beautiful Beach" - 5 Stars

If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet vacation in beautiful and elegant surroundings Old Bahama Bay is an ideal place.

The pictures on the OBB website give an accurate depiction of the place. If you want to stay in a rabbit warren of people and activity, by all means stay at Lucaya. OBB is a friendly, quiet place to relax. This resort is a real garden spot: beautiful beach, a really nice pool, and a comfortable but elegant atmosphere.

The rooms were very well furnished, and very well maintained. The beach is beautiful. Because the water offshore is shallow, the waves are small, but the water is clear, and the beach has nice coral sand. OBB seems ideal for young children, and despite attracting a significant number of families, it still maintains an air of calm.

The staff at the resort were extremely friendly, probably the most friendly we've encountered in trips all over the Caribbean. Glitches in service do occur, but they are quickly remedied, and can be attributed to the laid back culture of the Bahamas, and perhaps an unwillingness of the OBB management to bleed the sort of red ink that consistently providing such service costs.

We've just returned from 3 nights at Old Bahama Bay . It was everything we imagined and more. From the extremely friendly staff, to the well-appointed rooms, to the off shore snorkeling, we were pleased with our experience.

We saw a 6 foot spotted manta ray 20 yards off the beach, tried some local dishes (guava duff- yum), and relaxed to our heart's content.

Both Enid and Tanya gave good massages. Ask at the Straw Bar for a ride to the off-shore snorkeling locations. It was also fun to walk around the marina to see the monstrous yachts moored there. On the way back to the airport, stop at the small hut for "chicken in a bag." It was a great way to end our trip.

We just spent our vacation at Old Bahama Bay at we found that the staff were the most efficient and most friendly that we have ever encountered anywhere, we also enjoyed the Food at the Resort, there are 3 Restaurants including one Gourmet Restaurant and the quality of the food was outstanding along with a very friendly service. We stayed in one of the new suites and it was one of the most luxurious suites we have stayed in at any Caribbean Resort, Beachfront, jacuzzi tubs, fine linens, nothing was missing. Congratulations to the Management in doing such a fine job and we are looking forward in coming back again soon and especially telling all of our friends.

We are just back from Our Honeymoon at Old Bahama Bay and I do not think we could have selected a better spot. The great service started with our reservation agent, she assured us that we truly enjoy every moment and we really did. She made note of every single detail. All of our appointments (Massage) were made, Reservations (Dinner) were confirmed etc. Once we were at the resort we were greeted by friendly front desk personnel. They didn't just point our room out to us, they actually walked to our rooms and did a full orientation. When we stepped into the rooms I was totally breathless (Upstairs - Beachcomber). They missed not one single detail when they decorated this room. Food & Beverage was just outstanding words just cannot describe the service much less the food. As you probably can tell we had an excellent Honeymoon and plan to return for our Anniversary. They promise us that our next trip will be a baby after eating all that conch at the Straw Bar. Only time will tell. Thank You Old Bahama Bay for an unforgettable Honeymoon.

We spent 6 nights at the Old Bahama Bay over Thanksgiving. What you see on the website is what you get. Beautiful room, steps to the beach, wake up in the morning with a view of the turquoise water, beach, palms and hammock. Best place to relax I've ever seen. If you want action, this is not where you should go. Aqua is a wonderful restaurant with superb food and attentive staff. Very good service throughout the resort, very pleasant. Pool is small but beautiful. There is still construction going on, however mostly inside the new buildings. But you may want to ask about the current status. Take advantage of their packages, because restaurants are expensive. Very good email and phone communication, call for reservation, they are very pleasant and helpful.

This is a fabulous resort. We stayed on a second story level and the view was fabulous. The newer unit we stayed in had a full kitchen and cable TV as well. The food at the resort was second to none. It is a very private and first class resort from the level of service to the food quality. We have already booked going back again. Try it you will love it.
